The Team: 3rd XI
Background information
After last year’s relegation, the third XI had a much more enjoyable season in the lower league, and a record of six wins, nine losses and no draws was a fairly positive return given the resources available.
The batting could hardly be descirbed as consistent. Six times the side were dismissed for under a hundred while on five occasions 240 was exceeded, with only three all out scores inbetween! The big totals were helped by hundreds from Harington and Kelly, who both disappeared never to be seen again, and leading batsman Rhys Buckley (252 runs at 36) who registered his maiden ton against Caterham, in the course of a 195 run partnership with skipper Graham Dunning (256 at 20).
Dhaval Barot deserves mention for two scores over 70 to set up the wins at Esher and Kempton, and Will Vincent hit 72 against a strong Epsom side, despite the distraction of watching seven other batsmen depart without scoring! Hopefully we will see more of these two next year.
Legger Andrew Campbell led the wickets (18 at 15 apiece including 7 at Esher), and also led the banter. Matt Pizzey was the best bowler and would have taken more than 10 wickets had he not broken a mirror seven years ago.
Youngsters Jimmy Fuller and Nikhil Patel both improved a lot this year, and made some telling contributions.
Thanks to Andy Poole for umpiring.
