The Team: 1st XI

Background Information – 2009 Season

After losing many key players, 2009 was always going to be a struggle. However, this provided valuable opportunities for younger players to be exposed to some good cricket. With a new captain and a very different looking side the 1′s set out full of hope.

It became very quickly clear that the task to stay up would be our goal along with bringing some young players into the side. Unfortunately we fell short and were relegated with a solitary win, we were however successful in introducing some new players throughout the season all of whom performed valiantly and Wes Lind our overseas for the year bowled beautifully all season.

Notable mentions must also go to Captain Alex Pizzey, finishing with well over 500 runs and young spinners Nihal Patel and Devik Amin. Both proved they are more than capable at first XI level and Nihal even managed a 5for in only his third game. A huge thank you must of course go to Michael ‘Webble’ Webb for his stirling work with the score book.
