Andrew ‘Toots’ Campbell

Background information from 2009:
I love to play games where the opposition scores 250+ runs for the loss of, say, 2 wickets, where we drop about 10 catches, and then get bowled out for 48. Sometimes life is too easy and it’s good to have those moments to remind you that no matter how hard you practise and how good you are, there’s always going to be a team of 11 guys who can grind you into the dust.
What clubs have you previously played for:
Irby, Merton College, Warlingham.
Your greatest single moment:
It’s quite difficult to sort through all those moments where I scored centuries against all the odds to win the game single-handedly, so I’ll probably just go for that moment where I described Graham Dunning, 2009 3rd XI captain, as always running around in the field “like a clockwork mouse.”
One to watch for 2010:
I’m quite disappointed that so far in other players’ ‘One to watch’ no one has mentioned Rob Mitchell. With his talent, tactical acumen, and bullet-like throwing arm I feel sure he will lead the 3rd XI to glory in 2010. Watch this space.
Preferred batting partner:
Paul Clarke. I had a couple of useful partnerships with him but more importantly we never indulge in any of this frivolous and silly glove-bashing that professional batsman do at the end of every over, which I think always looks ridiculous at club 3rd XI level.
Who is your cricketing hero?
Shane Warne
What was the first CD or record you purchased?
I believe it was ‘Dance Masters’, a compilation of Trance classics from the late 90s. I remember I bought it in a motorway services in Heston. What a life I have led.
Favourite ground you’ve ever played at?
Coldharbour, probably. A beautiful ground.
Best teas in the Championship?
Warlingham teas are always pretty good.
