Warlingham achieved a break in their run of losses but only came away with a solitary point from a game that would have been more entertaining if it weren’t for the unpleasant scenes of players arguing between themselves which resulted the umpires having to intervene. Both teams, or more correctly, certain individuals from either team were incapable of accepting with good grace umpiring decisions that went against them and reacted like more like Premiership footballers disputing a penalty than weekend cricketers who are supposedly playing for fun.

As for the game, Warlingham’s lower order again had to rescue the situation after only Nishan Naidoo (31) from the top six made a significant contribution. From 85-6 Mansoor Mirza patiently added 36 with Rowen Dayal and then, with rather more enterprise, put on another 57 for the ninth wicket with Tim Slade. Mirza was out for 43 in the 54th over and Slade fell in the final over for 33 with the score on 197. Naeem Anjum had bowled consistently accurately to conceed only 40 runs in 19 overs but Scott Benham was the most successful with 3-25.

Addiscombe began brightly with Skipper Andrew Poulton and Jack Docherty making questionable the visitor’s decison to start with the old ball and Kiran Patel’s off-breaks. Mirza at the other end soon accounted for Docherty but Jason Moore joined his captain to raise the total to 71 before Poulton was out to Rowen Dayal’s medium pace for 41 from 54 balls. Dayal then also dismissed Cox and Hurrion and with Slade nipping in with the wicket of Johnson, Addiscombe were looking shaky at 96-6. Then Sean Crowie took over and from there, although the target looked increasingly out of reach, the winning draw was always on. Kiran Patel’s second spell bought him two victims the second of which left Warlingham 4 overs to take two wickets for victory, with 13 needed for the four points. Crowie reached his 50 and left his team needing another 2 runs in the last over, curiously bowled by Ash Patel, and still with 8 wickets down. Crowie’s 11th boundary then secured the 4 points for Addiscombe as they closed on 168-8. He finished with 57 from only 55 balls with Rowen Dayal Warlingham’s most successful bowler with 3-24.

Warlingham 197, 54.5 overs; Addiscombe 169-8, 46 overs
